During colder months of the year, finding structure is the most important. Snook, which is the most popular species to catch, can be caught in the backwaters of St Lucie and Indian River. They migrate back into the canals and river systems hugging to mangrove lines, bridges, and many other structures. Getting aboard with a local expert will cut down your time and get you on bigger and better species more time efficient.
You can either use live bait including shrimp, mullet, pinfish, grunts, etc for inshore species. As well as the most preferred method, you can use dead baits such as mullet, bonito, and squid. Visit your local bait and tackle stores to determine which avenue and bait option is going to be the best choice. Most shops have up-to-date information on how the resources are working in your destination.
One of the best structures known to hold excellent inshore fishing is bridges. The Ten-Cent Bridge during the right tides and time of day can provide some of the most incredible inshore fishing in the state. Hold on while you fight the biggest Snook of your life. Along with the might Snook, you can catch Tarpon, Jack Crevalle, Mackerel, Snapper, and Grouper. The action is consistent all year round with peak seasons for species including Snook and Tarpon.
Our Local Expert and Professional Captain Hunter Weston has spent many years of his life determining, learning and fishing this incredible fishing destination. If you are looking for the ULTIMATE inshore fishing experience, make sure you get on his clean fishing vessel into the backwaters of Stuart, FL.
Current Inshore Fishing Report from Captain Hunter out of Stuart, FL:
“As we experience what we Floridians deem as cold weather, the Snook have been on and off for the time being. With that being said, when we have had a couple of warm days in a row the bite is extremely good.
Look for docks with good current movement and a little bit of tinted water. In this cold, they seem to like a little stain in the water, which in turn helps that reaction bite on artificial baits.
Some of the best baits consist of Yo-Zuri minnows or crank baits along with MirrOlure topwater plugs. You can also use DOA TerrorEyz or Shrimp that sit on the bottom where the big Snook are waiting to feed. Redfish up north by the power plant have been consistent and seemingly chewing pretty good on these mid 60’s days we’ve been blessed with recently”
If you are after that deep-sea creature in Stuart, FL, head a short distance offshore to get into cooler waters for much larger fish. Current Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing Report with Captain Hunter Weston
“Right now on great Lake O, we are getting skinnier and skinnier. Water levels are dropping making for great opportunities to cash in on some bigger fish. Fish that have been back in vegetation and in that normal 2-3′ water range are starting to move out towards main lake points and bays.
When you are adventuring out on the water, make sure to keep an eye out for clean water. Keep your eyes open for moving water and current. Observe paths and routes from the main lake to backwaters that can help you locate more fish. As the water continues to drop, the bass will have no other option but to find deeper water.
Shad are thick around outside grass and have good schools of bass hitting top waters, lipless crankbaits and spinner baits. Live wild caught shiners may be the most effective but artificial baits can provide you with a fun and rewarding experience. “
Lake Okeechobee can fulfill your freshwater dream as it is one of the best bass fishing lakes in Florida. Cast out artificial lures or live bait to land that TROPHY largemouth bass you have been hoping for. All year round, Lake Okeechobee can provide you with a fishing experience like no other. We look forward to seeing you on the water next time.
Our Local Expert:
“Hello my name is Captain Hunter Weston. I’m 27 years old from Stuart, FL. I’m a second generation native Floridian, born in Plantation, FL. I’ve been fishing since before I could remember; my father always tells a story of my first bass on my own was at two years old. How much of that is true, I’m not sure.
My earliest memories of fishing are from when I was four. I used to fish local tournaments with my father in the Everglades and on Lake Okeechobee. Since then I haven’t known life without bass fishing. I grew up primarily fishing Lake Okeechobee around some of the best anglers known to the sport. I always loved the idea of being a professional guide and giving people the opportunity to see the beauty and experiences fishing has to offer. Growing up with a father that guided professional gave me the tools and knowledge to feel confident in being successful at such a rewarding career.
At the age of 21, I joined the United States Coast Guard. I’ve been on active duty for the past six years. I’ve taken many lessons and fundamentals from my time served and have applied them to many different aspects of my life in order to make myself a well-rounded professional mariner and human being.
What you can experience with Captain Hunter:
My passion for the sport of fishing goes beyond a hobby, my wife likes to say it’s more of an obsession. If I’m not fishing, I’m thinking about fishing, my mind never stops. From fishing new water and finding the fish to getting them to bite and react to different baits. In this industry, if you’re not adapting and figuring out the fish on a daily basis, you’ll get left behind. It’s a beautiful place that can humble you extremely fast. My love for bass fishing and Lake Okeechobee are beyond my power to express in words.
My expertise does not end at bass fishing; I’ve been inshore fishing in Stuart since I was twelve. I remember catching an over-slot Snook for the first time and having a whole new world open up to me. Drag screaming, acrobatic maneuvers, aggressive head shakes, it was an experience that got my attention as much as bass fishing. Since then I have pursued inshore species such as tarpon, redfish, permit, jack, and trout. One thing I love about saltwater is the chance to catch so many different species in one trip.
Another adventure I love to share with people is the pursuit of the beautiful peacock bass. The peacock bass was introduced here in South Florida in the 1980’s. Originally from the Amazon regions of South America, this fish is as ferocious as it is colorful. Sometimes putting up a fight you weren’t bargaining for.
As a matter of fact, from Lake Ida to Miami, I’ve fished for peacocks since I was 10. A very different experience that is undoubtedly unrivaled. Where ever you want to explore, I am your local expert. My goal is to provide you with the best Florida Fishing experience possible. I look forward to sharing experiences and memories with incredible people.”

October was a very strong month for catching redfish here in Stuart. As the months roll on, the fishing will continue to be strong. You may have to be more patient as the temperatures drop but you will still have a great chance at catching some big fish. Sometimes being out on the water isn’t about catching big fish. Florida Fishing is more about being outdoors while the weather is cooler. Setting the hook is an added bonus as well as a trophy class fish. Many people lose touch with the activity of fishing rather than catching. Enjoy the process of catching a fish and it will make that catch even better.
Luckily, when you are traveling to the Treasure Coast during these fall months you have a great chance at catching some quality fish and numbers of different species. Captain Hunter had the pleasure of fishing with Ray, his wife Peggy and their grandson Raymond. After conversing for multiple months about when the best time to come fishing, the decided October was going to be the best time. Just to get out on the boat and on the water made all that time worth it.
Redfish fishing can get slow at times, hence the reason why you have to stay patient. The Stuart waters hold excellent fishing for a variety of species. Ray and his family caught a nice redfish right off the bat. It was a 31 inch redfish that put some smiles on the faces of Ray and his family. After some time of not finding this fish where they caught the first one, Captain Hunter made some changes.
One of the downfalls of fishing in Florida is that you can experience some boat traffic. Boat traffic will prevent you from getting in your fishing spots. Also, the amount of vibration the boats give off while slow the bite down and keep the fish away. When you are Florida Inshore Fishing, you have to make sure that you choose the right times and tides to go fishing. Find quiet times when the tides are moving right and get out on the water.
Due to slower action, Captain Hunter made a decision to head further south towards Jupiter Florida looking for better waters. It was not long after getting there that they got in on some action. He found some great strucutre and landed some nice Snook! Whether you want to use crabs, pin fish, mullet or croakers is completely your preference. They are all effective especially this time of year.
As a result of moving, they were reward with the fish they were looking for. 8 year old Raymond was up to bat as the rod starting going off. Watching the bait being eaten is one of the most exciting parts of catching big redfish. Raymond was hooked up on a nice redfish and was fighting it all by himself. Just to watch this little man fight this fish was an absolute blast. Every time the redfish would make a hard run and take drag his face would light up. Raymond was sitting on a cooler as he was fighting and as the fish pulled he would get lifted slightly making for an even better experience. It was a true fight that made the trip truly special.
Captain Hunter admits that this was one of the most unique battles that he had the chance to experience. Certainly, it is moments like this that make being a fishing captain one of the best jobs ever. Just to provide a family with this much joy makes all the hard work so much sweeter. The action was not over as several other big redfish made it to the boat.
When you key in on a technique make sure you don’t change things up to quickly. Starting our drift over, the action persisted. Peggy was up next! All The next big battle began as her fish was fighting and running hard. Peggy fought the redfish to the boat and once it was landed started shaking with excitement. Captain Hunter put it on the deck and measured it. Peggy got her birthday gift catching a 41 inch Redfish making this trip a success. It was another amazing experience to watch someone live in a moment they will never forget. Peggy was shaking with accomplishment and excitement making everything so much more precious.
Captain Hunter is truly honored to be part of this incredible outdoor experience!

Beautiful weather and perfect fishing conditions led to a strong bite right off the bat. Pablo and his friends reeled in numbers of fish of each species. Adventuring offshore is like adventuring into the unknown. You never know what is going to bite the line. Pablo and his crew got the chance to experience some of the best species to catch. They started out with the bonito then they caught a barracuda. These fish were just getting their arms warm for what was to come. After these species were caught, schools of blackfin tuna came up and they started putting them in the boat as well. It was not long after this that the Mahi-Mahi showed up. They did not catch a bull but put several quality fish in the boat. After trolling live bait and ballyhoo, they slowed down their fishing tactics and landed some bottom fish including snapper.
Finally, we get to the catch of the day. Pablo and his friends landed a beautiful sailfish while fishing with live bait. The bait of choice was a google-eye. They also love to eat pilchards and blue runners. Whatever live bait you can get your hands on will provide you the best chance to catch that trophy fish. As a result, you have much great success putting a wide variety of species in the boat. Sailfish put up an excellent fight truly worth experiencing.

August was an amazing month for offshore fishing in Stuart, Florida. Taking a quick cruise to the Atlantic Gulf Stream or the local reefs and wrecks produced a steady bite for its visitors. August was also the month that Red Snapper Season opened up for several weekends. St Lucie Inlet Red Snapper Fishing was one of the best experiences here in Florida along the east coast.
Just south of Stuart, you will find the entrance to the great Atlantic Ocean. While cruising through the intercoastal waterways to get there, enjoy the sights and wonders of Florida. As you travel out of St Lucie Inlet make sure you capture the beautiful views of this amazing destination!
Our local experts have years of experience cruising these waters and getting out to the local reefs for an abundance of species. Some of our experts have learned a variety of techniques including inshore fishing and offshore fishing. When the weather gets rough, you can always come in and catch some great species on lighter tackle. Stuart deep sea Fishing has been where it is at though when the weather permits.
Our Local Experts had the pleasure of fishing with Ariel and Tai. They were traveling from California and Japan to do business at a convention. It was a fun morning with the owners of Jackall Lures this summer. The fish were all fired up and ready to be caught. St Lucie Inlet and Stuart gives access to some of the best waters to catch Red Snapper and Mango Snapper. Sometimes when you go out you come across other species that can change the plans or direction of your fishing adventure on a St Lucie Inlet snapper fishing trip.
Ariel and Tai wanted to catch mango and red snapper. They got the mango snapper all fired up on the local reef and started reeling them in. It was awesome to have a school of great fish below the boat. Sometimes when you fire up a school and you put out bait and get the water chummed up, you happen to acquire some unwanted guests. Tai was looking for a good fight and he sure got one.
As they were reeling in a mango snapper left and right, they wanted to go for something bigger. Chunking out bigger bait and letting it get to the bottom, it was not long until something picked it up. Tai was in for a long 20-minute fight that he actually had to have Aerial assist him with. The taxmen were in town and they brought one to the boat. They caught a 7 foot, roughly 200-pound reef shark. It was an awesome fight. You just never know what you will catch on a Stuart Florida Fishing Charter. When you bottom fish like such, you will always encounter sharks whether you are catching them or they steal the struggling fish you just hooked.
After getting taxed as they call it, the bite slowed down. After some time, the red snapper moved in. Ariel and Tai had a lot of fun catching several of them before the bite shut off. It was not long after the bite shut down that we decided to move inshore in order to catch a Red Fish. Unfortunately, this trip was on the weekend and the redfish were lock jawed.
Our Local Experts had an awesome time with Ariel and Tai. They are looking forward to getting back on the water next time they visit Florida. You truly can’t beat what this beautiful area of Florida can offer you. Don’t miss out on your adventure in search for the inshore or offshore species of your dreams. New Smyrna Beach can most certainly accomplish your goals and dreams right here in Florida. We can’t wait to see you on the water next time!
